"We will figure it out!" -Anonymous
Continuing with my spotlight series on the amazing women at augustwenty, next up is Beth Shaheen. Beth and I go back about 10 years when we both began our journey with a young tech company that later got purchased. Over the years our roles entwined and she became someone I trusted and respected—not only as a co-worker, but as a friend. Being with a young company, we both had to “figure out” many aspects of our jobs along the way. I have seen Beth adopt this as a “mantra” in many aspects of her life over the years and I am thrilled to have her on our team working with others to “figure out” our marketing along the way.
Beth has shared with me that coming to augustwenty, as a start-up, enables her to again feel like her work has meaning, accomplishment, and provides value. With much latitude, she and our entire marketing team are able to put their ideas into action immediately. And, just as our company has grown, she has shared with me that she has grown professionally—researching creative ways to market a start-up business, learning to trust her gut, exploring new ways of promoting the business, creating content and establishing our brand awareness through a variety of channels.
Much to my surprise, Beth finds working with me as “the woman behind the company” inspiring and in her words: “inspired by Angela’s strength, certainty, and compassion for every employee and their families.” In fact, she has a history of surrounding herself with strong women. In particular, a dance instructor from her high school days was the catalyst that encouraged her to apply and attend college—not accepting anything less. The strength and persistence of that one person resulted in Beth changing the trajectory of her life by landing herself a fully paid 4 year degree! Today, she mentions Mel Robbins as a resource in “keeping it all real by Mel’s simple approach to gaining confidence, making decisions, and overcoming obstacles.”
To sum it up, I find Beth someone that “figures it out.” No matter what the situation, she adopts the attitude of “figuring it out and making it all work for the best.” Although I am not so sure she has figured out the dangers of jumping out of a plane numerous times—but that is yet another part of her—the adventurous side.
