"The First"

"The first" of anything is always scary. The unknown and the dreaded “will I fail." Even meeting someone for the first time. Essentially getting a “pass or fail." It can be quite dramatic, that first time, for anything. I still remember my first day of kindergarten. Too scared to get on the bus, I clang to my Mom's knees has she walked across the yard to the bus. People have to do “their” firsts really by no choice of their own. Things like your first tooth, first step, first word, first dance, first kiss your first car…these are things that are quite literally just going to happen by living your life. You will have so many of these that I can’t even begin to count them.

But..what about the first’s we choose? What makes someone want to be the first man on the moon, or the first person to take flight? What makes someone want to invent the first automobile? Can you imagine how scared they must have been?

One of “my first choices” is augustwenty (augustwenty is an IT consulting firm) and I’m scared. I currently have 20 people counting on me to “bring it” every day for them to succeed. It’s scary. It’s also fun, rewarding, exciting, humbling, and a whole lot of other things I can’t put into words. I love working with these people. I love owning my own company. That doesn’t make it less scary. I think the longer augustwenty is around the more confident I will be. I think that will make it less scary.

Another first is this blog. I don’t know how I’ll know if this is successful; but I think it will be less scary the more I do it. Perhaps people will comment saying, "we don’t care about that” or “that was really good info." Maybe no one will say anything. Either way, I want to document this ride and share my experience. I hope you will join me. For now, Angela
