Mrs. Morgan taught 2nd grade at Scioto Elementary School in Teays Valley School District. I say “taught” because she has since retired. She was the first teacher that my son ever had in the school district. Until that year, he had attended a private Montessori school in Dublin. We started seeing issues with reading and other skills and decided it would be better to get him into a more structured program. The first day was horrible! He cried and didn’t want me to leave him. I got a call from Mrs. Morgan stating that she thought he was on a kindergarten reading level. I was devastated! However, within that first week Mrs. Morgan had created a plan for him to be on “grade level” reading by year end. She had parents, tutors, and aids working on his reading skills daily. We had homework in the evening. His progress was amazing. His self-confidence skyrocketed! It took hard work, and, at the end of the year he was on a 6th grade reading level!! She always said, “he can do this; he just has to believe he can and be taught the tools.” And that is exactly what she did. I don’t know if I ever said thank you then, but I’m not sure I even realized the extent of what she did. He is graduating from college soon. He has completed two internships. He has a job. He has done so much that would not have been possible without Mrs. Morgan.
Thank you for being his teacher. Thank you for believing in him when he didn’t believe in himself, and when I didn’t believe in myself.
Take a moment to reach out to that person that helped you along the way. They may not know the impact they have had!
For now,
Angela
